Our Place

The Black Lion Abergorlech is a warm, casual Country Pub and Restaurant located in the beautiful Cothi Valley. You can find us just a few steps from the Abergorlech entrance to Brechfa forest. With its stunning walks and Mountain Bike trails it is a truly magical place where the River Gorlech merges with the Cothi.
Since we bought, renovated and re-opened the Black Lion Abergorlech in 2017 our goal has been to serve delicious drinks and home cooked food using as many high quality, local, Welsh ingredients as possible. You’ll find Coaltown Coffee, local ales and many modernised pub classics but also some surprises!

In short, we are a traditional pub with a bit of a modern twist.
After you’ve allowed yourself to unwind a bit, perused the day’s menu, and perhaps chosen your favourite tipple, feel free to make a friend or two. The people of Abergorlech are a big part of what makes this place special. After all, we’re more than just good food and drink - we’re a community.
Hope to see you soon

Our Food

Our tasty, homemade food combines updated traditional dishes with some surprises. We source and use as much local Welsh produce as possible on our menu and believe strongly in the use of good seasonal ingredients, prepared and cooked well. We mince 100% Welsh beef to make our own burgers, our Welsh Black beef Steaks come from Fferm Tyllwyd around 6 miles down the road and cut our hand cut, twice cooked chips from Welsh potatoes. Homemade desserts are often accompanied by one of our delicious ice-creams all of which are made here using Welsh double cream.
Our menu changes regularly, often on a daily basis and caters for most dietary needs but please contact us if you have specific requirements.
Below are samples of our Lunch, Evening and Sunday Lunch Menus.

Our Drinks

Obviously there are a wide range of drinks  available to choose from at the bar but we are proud to have mostly wonderful Welsh products. Our choices include award winning Single Malt Whiskies, Brecon Gins and Siddiqui Brown Rum from Penderyn in the Brecon Beacons, Flavoured Gins from Aber Falls in North Wales, Organic Oak aged Gin from the Da Mhile Distillery in Llandysul and Barti Ddu Seaweed Rum named after the notorious Welsh pirate.

We serve local Welsh lager and cider on draught - Liberty Lager and Red Hog cider are both from Llandeilo and are Gluten free and vegan.

Around ninety percent of our soft drinks and mixers are Welsh too! These include juices and fizzy drinks from Flawsome and Heartsease, water from Princes Gate and mixers from Buzbee’s and Source.

It's always real ale time and of course ours are always Welsh!

We serve a guest ale from the fantastic Tenby Harbwr Brewery which changes weekly - from M.V. Enterprise to North Star, from Sea Bass to Tamar's Tusk, they are all different but all delicious.

Our second real ale offering is from Evan Evans in Llandeilo - Warrior is a classic Welsh ale, distinctive, malty and full-bodied.

Our coffee of choice is Coaltown from Ammanford. We serve Candle Light No1 Espresso, it has a deep dark flavour and makes a wonderful espresso.  We also use Coaltown's decaffeinated offering - Jenkin Jones for those who love great coffee but don't do caffeine!
